Transgender contestants from 17 countries competed in this year's Miss International Queen beauty pageant in Pattaya City, Thailand, which is the trans community's most prestigious contest, but it was Miss Philippines who took the highly-coveted crown.

Angry Pageant Loser Rips Crown From Winner's Head

A cheering audience at the 2015 Miss Amazon pageant in Manaus, Brazil last Friday was shocked when second-place contestant Sheislayne Hayalla walked up to the winner, Carol Toledo and ripped the crown off her head at the end of the contest, throwing it to the ground and walking off stage.

Hayalla defended her actions as not impulsive, saying that Toledo's family basically brought the crown and it was time to take a stand.

MIAMI — Miss Colombia, Paulina Vega, was crowned Miss Universe on Sunday night, while Miss USA, Nia Sanchez, came in second. The other finalists, chosen from among 88 contestants, were Miss Jamaica, Kaci Fennell; Miss Ukraine, Diana Harkusha; and Miss Netherlands, Yasmin Verheijen.

Miss Lebanon distances herself from photo with Miss Israel

(CNN)Miss Lebanon Saly Greige is distancing herself from a photo of her and Miss Israel Doron Matalon that's causing an online uproar.

The picture appeared on Matalon's Instagram feed on January 11. It shows Matalon smiling with Greige, Miss Slovenia and Miss Japan in Miami, where the Miss Universe pageant will take place on Sunday.

Beauty queen in Ecuador dies after botched liposuction surgery that was part of pageant prize

A 19-year-old beauty queen and aspiring doctor died in Ecuador due to complications from a botched liposuction surgery – a medical procedure that she at first didn’t want.

Catherine Cando, a part-time glamour model and the winner of the Queen of Durán beauty contest in Ecuador, had initially declined the surgery – part of the prize for winning the pageant – because she believed she could lose the supposed excess weight through exercise. But the judges insisted she needed the surgery.
